The Festival of Festivals - Burning Man

Burning Man - Cargo Cult
I go to festivals for positive energy. Being around thousands of people who are all having a great time is a very energizing and uplifting experience. I go to be around people who suddenly become open to having conversations with strangers. A smile here, a hug there, perhaps if you're lucky a kiss, but regardless there is connection. Connection with the music, the environment, other festival goers, and oneself.

Here is my video shot at Burning Man 2013 (Watch in HD)

Growth
For those who are focused on personal growth, festivals challenge our current personal beliefs about what is normal. How much pressure do the media, our families, our peers, and ourselves exert on us to be "normal"? this perceived judgement can be a tremendous coercive force to behave and think in ways that we don't necessarily want to or should. The self reflection that often occurs during or after festivals allow us to think critically about our social constructs, and that process helps us to discover what really matters to us.

To Know Oneself
Who am I, really? A question at the center of many spiritual practices, is exposed and wallowed in for several days. That is why festivals can be, and often are, spiritually invigorating. Yes, they may look like a giant party on the surface (and yes many are insanely epic indulging experiences) but for those who connect with the flow, it's more about the journey than the party.

Unique Experience
I used to think that after each festival I would somehow come back a different person, but I now know that is merely my perspective that has changed. Like peeling the layers of an onion the innerself is revealed. It is the music, art, and the energy exchanged between people that act as a catalyst for that shift. Everybody has their own festival.

I wish to share the words that resonate with me, spoken by a friend who first showed me the spiritual festival experience.

Boogie On,

So many magical moments are lived but not filmed - that is the way it was meant to be.
